Cremos que entender a cidade, na ocasião que envolve um projecto de arquitectura, implica pensar a cidade estabelecendo uma reflexão sobre três paradigmas que consideramos incontornáveis: A cidade como contexto, o lugar da experiência e o edifício como concretização do corpo da cidade. Esta investigação teve como princípio o desafio de pensar a "Cidade Inesperada”, tema do concurso “Unexpected City ", organizado pelo Union Internationale des Architectes com o “international student competition in architecture design” Partindo de uma leitura multifacetada da cidade, este estudo reflecte sobre a cidade contemporânea e as suas múltiplas características sociais e culturais, linhas orientadoras de uma relação indissociável entre o Homem e o espaço, que abre o horizonte a inúmeras possibilidades na construção de ambientes e de lugares. Sob esta relação desenvolve-se uma investigação sobre o Genius Loci ou espírito do lugar, sobre a identidade e a compreensão que temos com o lugar. Abordamos o tema da cidade, os seus “bons” e “maus” lugares, no sentido de uma visão sobre o território e sobre as necessidades do seu tempo. Reabilitar as infraestruturas urbanas assume-se como tarefa principal desta investigação. Assim como sustentação desta reflexão teórica, propomos uma releitura do edifício Silo Auto no Porto que dá lugar a um silo empresarial, através de um projecto de arquitectura em todas as suas fases, que se traduz na adaptação deste edifício a uma incubadora de empresas. Entendemos que o processo de incubação pode funcionar como um motor impulsionador do sistema económico local, bem como garantia do reforço da imagem criativa e empreendedora da cidade do Porto.The city of today is deemed more uncertain every day, due to the practices, customs, its audience, and particularly, the context of today’s lifestyle. We believe that understanding the city, while inserted in an architecture project, implies conceiving the city by establishing a reflection about three paradigms that we deem unavoidable: the city as context, the place of experience and the building as concretization of the body of the city. This investigation took as its principle the challenge of reflecting on the theme of the contest “Unexpected City ", organized by the Union Internationale des Architectes working with the “international student competition in architecture design”. With a multifaceted reading of the city as starting point, this study reflects about the contemporary city and its many social and cultural characteristics, guiding lines of an unbreakable connection between Man and the surrounding space, which brings up a world of possibilities for constructing ambiance and location. Keeping this relationship in mind, an investigation was developed, focusing on the Genius Loci, or the spirit of the place, an investigation that focuses on the identity and our reading of the location. We approach the theme of the city, the “good” and “bad” locations, to build a vision of the definition of territory when related to the necessities of its time. The rehabilitation of urban infrastructures is the main task of this investigation. To support this theoric reflection, we propose a reading of the Silo Auto building, at Oporto, which serves the purpose of a corporate silos, through a multiphasic architectural project which translates to the adaptation of this building as a multi company incubator.
