A Importância fundamental que a Igreja tinha dentro do Mosteiro, quanto à sua localização, orientação, dimensão, composição e morfologia do espaço interior das Igrejas recordam-nos os passos que a história relembra na sua organização a nível da Doutrina da Igreja de Roma e o período do Concílio de Trento e as suas reformas nos séculos XVII e XVIII. Os Mosteiros masculinos e femininos e as diferenças na sua Arquitectura, no que diz respeito aos coros e sua localização dentro da planta da Igreja, pensada para o interior e para a clausura. Para além dos vários Mosteiros femininos destaca-se o Mosteiro de S. Bento de Cástris sendo a mais antiga fundação Cisterciense a Sul do Tejo.The Cistercian monasteries are an important part of our history, which tell about the past through their spaces and the morphology of the areas they were built on, along with the wisdom of the architects who foresaw and conceived them. The fundamental relevance that the Church had within the monastery, concerning its location, alignment, dimension, layout and interior morphology, reminds us of the historical steps that the church underwent in terms of organization, following the doctrine of the Roman church, the Council of Trent and the XVII and XVIII reforms. The male and female monasteries display architectural differences in what the choirs are concerned, namely in their location on the church floor, thought for the interior and for confinement.
