Com esta investigação pretende-se perceber até que ponto pode o espaço de internamento contribuir para a mudança do ser humano que o habita e, deste modo, influenciar a sua reinserção na sociedade. Para isso, realiza-se uma introdução ao tema da Reinserção na Sociedade partindo-se da análise do sistema de protecção de menores em Portugal, de modo a conhecer a evolução do estatuto da criança perante a justiça portuguesa. Visto que os Centros Educativos são instituições de internamento muito específicas, interessa perceber o seu funcionamento, quais os programas desenvolvidos e quais os serviços presentes nestes estabelecimentos. Interessa ainda perceber o desenvolvimento destes espaços a nível arquitectónico. Por isso, apresenta-se, primeiramente, uma breve história da formação da rede destas instituições de internamento, desde a sua fundação até à actualidade e, posteriormente, alguns exemplos arquitectónicos de Centros Educativos em Portugal. Realiza-se também um enquadramento legal, de modo a perceber quais as leis que regem, quer o estatuto da criança quer as instituições onde estas são internadas, quando consideradas delinquentes. E, tratando-se de jovens institucionalizados, faz todo o sentido caracterizá-los, identificando, deste modo, algumas das suas características, tal como a sua idade, género, o seu local de origem e o tipo de crime que originou o internamento. Finalmente acha-se pertinente aplicar todo o conhecimento apreendido na primeira parte desta investigação a um caso prático, nomeadamente o desenvolvimento de um projecto para um Centro Educativo na Covilhã.This dissertation has as its subject internment institutions of young offenders - Educational Centers. This research aims to understand how much the internment space can contribute to a change in human beings that live it and, influence their reintegration into society. To do so, an introduction was made on the topic of Reintegration in Society starting from the analysis of the child protection system in Portugal, in order to recognize the evolution of the child status before the Portuguese justice. Since Educational Centers are very specific inpatient institutions, it’s important to realize their procedure, which programs are developed and which services are present in these establishments. It is also important to realize the development of these spaces at an architectural level. Therefore, firstly, a brief history of the formation of the network of these internment institutions is presented, from its founding to the present, and later, some architectural examples of Educational Centers in Portugal. A legal framework was carried out in order to understand which laws govern, towards the child status and the institutions where they are admitted, when considered delinquent. And, in case of young institutionalized, it makes sense to characterize them, identifying, in this way, some of its features, such as their age, gender, place of origin and the type of crime that led to internment. Finally it’s appropriate to apply all the knowledge learned in the first part of this research to a practical case, namely the development of a project for an Educational Center in Covilha.porReinserção socialCentro educativomaster thesis
