Abstract(s)
adquiridos, as aptidões desenvolvidas e experiências vivenciadas no período
This document reports the activities performed to complete the degree in pharmaceutical sciences. The report is organized into two chapters: the research project on "Skin products for atopic dermatitis: User preferences regarding cosmetic/pharmaceutical formulations and impact on therapeutic follow-up" and the "Internship report in community pharmacy", which are part of the curricular unit "internship" of the Integrated Master's Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease effecting all age groups and ethnicities and has shown an increasing prevalence in children over the last few years. Identifying strategies to improve these users quality of life is of utmost importance. In the first part of this study, a questionnaire was developed and applied collect information from users with atopic dermatitis (or their caregivers) regarding the acceptability of and preferences for skin care products. The purpose was to study the identified drawbacks and asses how they affect users therapeutic adherence and quality of life. In this study, 114 answers were validated, of which 101 correspond to individuals with AD and 13 are caregivers of individuals with AD, aged mainly between 20-24 years (22.7%) and 25-29 years (22.7%). The vast majority report that itching is the most bothersome symptom (92.1%) followed by erythema (83.3%). To manage these exacerbations of AD most report using cosmetic products (cleansers and moisturizers) (90.4%) and state that they impact their quality of life (57%). Regarding topical pharmacological measures, they report using topical corticosteroids less than once a month (41.1%). Most respondents report that a product that is low in fat, thin and in the pharmaceutical form of a cream (watery consistency, relatively faster absorption compared to an ointment when applied more widely) would improve the likelihood of being used for AD. Aspects such as color, fragrance and amount of product are indifferent to the respondents. The second chapter of this work, reports the knowledge acquired, the skills developed and the experiences acquired from February 1st to June 17th as part of my internship in community pharmacy. My internship was conducted in the Gomes Pinho Pharmacy, belonging to the municipality of Arouca, under the supervision of Dr. Patricia Pinto.
