Abstract(s)
Health in Portugal is one of the fundamental pillars and one of the most positive marks of the 50 years of democracy. Although there has been a great deal of progress in the area of health in recent decades, there is a clear need to define policies for constant improvement in the field of health in order to meet the current needs of users with effective responses. This study aims to deepen our knowledge of the level of satisfaction of users in a hospital setting in the National Health Service (SNS) with the nursing care they receive during hospitalization. To achieve the study objectives, a sample of 70 users admitted to the Medicine, Surgery, and Orthopaedics services of the Unidade Local de Saúde da Guarda - Hospital Sousa Martins, EPE was questioned using a questionnaire designed to assess, from the user's perspective, the care provided to them during hospitalization, using questions adapted from other studies. The results show a high level of satisfaction among inpatients with the care provided by the nurses. Patients' perceptions of nurses in the following areas: information obtained during hospitalization, care provided, communication, and competence are very positive. It should be noted that the variables under study also had no influence on the satisfaction of inpatients, with the exception of the gender of the users and the ideal age of the nurse when caring for the patient. Of the variables under study, competence stands out, followed by friendliness, which is the characteristic most valued by users. The least valued were Presentation and Humor. This research, thus, highlights the existence of a high level of user satisfaction with the healthcare provided by nurses in the current health scenario.
