Abstract(s)
Collaboration has been assuming a great importance in scientific community and has today innumerous investigations. Related with these increasing interest, collaboration assumes an important paper at organizational level as a solution to face a dynamic and constantly changing environment. In fact, this relationship can bring to organizations an improved capacity to innovate and adopt creative solutions, increasingly valued in organizational field. The collaboration scenario found in Portugal, through the scientific investigation requires a new approach. This because most studies presents a qualitative approach, analyzing a specific scenario about a specific organization and not bring a broader perspective to phenomena. Thus, this investigation assumes a quantitative character bringing a new perspective and a new vision of collaboration. So, attempt was made to find an instrument to measure collaboration and allowed to study this phenomena. However, as we cannot found an instrument to measure collaboration we propose to translate, adapt and validate an instrument to measure collaboration. To accomplish this, it was considered very interesting analyze R&D unities associated to Portugal universities. This context is considered a very rich environment once that R&D unities vary in terms of structure, capacity, investigation areas, and others. The present study brings, then, two different approaches to the theme, through the researchers and coordinators perspective. In the end of data collection we gather 546 responses by 14 public universities. This data have been submitted to a statistical treatment in IBM® SPSS® Statistics 21 in order to be analyzed and discussed. Emphasis is placed in exploratory factorial analysis with the purpose to verify if the data fits in subjacent theoretical frame. Regarding the results it was verified that data doesn’t follow the same factorial structure that the original scale, suggesting the bidimensionality of the collaboration. It must be emphasized that there isn’t a big dispersion in the researcher’s perception about the collaboration phenomena. Also, were identified as principal motivations to collaboration the access to funding for research projects and facilitation in R&D internationalization. Relatively to the process, the most marked as facilitators are respect, experience and setting common goals. On the other hand, the most marked as obstacles are the bureaucracy that is considered extensive. About the results, the coordinators identified as the major the increasing of research results and the recognition of the R&D to an international level. Finally, as future perspectives we considered the development of other investigations that allows to verify the suitability of the collected data to the original framework model. This researches could permit, in the future, the use of the scale collaboration instrument in a reliable way and without no limitations.
