Abstract(s)
A singularidade do património natural, geológico, geomorfológico e cultural presente no
A caracterização efetuada
Serra da Estrela Natural Park (PNSE) is located in the center-east of the Portuguese territory and expands to the counties of Celorico da Beira, Covilhã, Gouveia, Guarda, Manteigas and Seia. Whilst representing a unique asset for the entire national territory, it has not always been accordingly taken advantage of, neither by the local populations, nor by the entities responsible for the management and planning of the territory. The main aim of this thesis is to contribute to formulating a comprehensive geoconservation strategy encompassing the inventory, characterization and evaluation of the sites with the highest geological value and interest of Serra da Estrela Natural Park. That required both field and deskwork, the latter in order to create a dynamic table between Excel and ArcMap so as to establish an order of value and vulnerability among geosites. That work resulted in the identification of 22 geosites, which were then characterized, revealing the richness and diversity of those places of geological interest. The final results are presented under the form of Geosites Value and Vulnerability themed geological letters which will assist in promoting and disseminating the natural and geological heritage of the region as well as in allowing for a strategy of geoconservation that will direct available resources to the most vulnerable geosites, thus enabling their preservation and sustainable appreciation.
