Abstract(s)
A presente dissertação de Mestrado aborda a história de Cabo Verde, oficialmente conhecida como República de Cabo Verde, desde que foi descoberta no início do século XV, mais precisamente em 1460, por exploradores portugueses e a sua colonização, mais concretamente o primeiro assentamento dos portugueses nos trópicos.
Foca-se assim na primeira capital do Arquipélago de Cabo Verde, a Ribeira Grande, atualmente designada de Cidade Velha, que é portadora de uma história única, sendo o primeiro lugar a ser colonizado pelos portugueses, que cresceu com o comércio triangular de escravos entre Europa-África-América, e berço na nação crioula.
Nas últimas décadas do século XX, o turismo em Cabo Verde tem sido um dos setores que mais se desenvolveu mas centrado no sol e praia, pesa embora as potencialidades culturais ainda mais em destaque depois de acidade ter sido distinguida, em Junho de 2009, como Património Mundial da Humanidade, passando a ter um potencial de referência enquanto destino internacional de turismo.
Contudo, os valores do turismo n cidade ainda ficam muito à quem do que seria de esperar após seis anos nessa categoria, Assim, esta dissertação tem como objetivo contribuir para o crescimento económico e turístico do país, apresentando uma proposta de um museu para a Cidade Velha, como forma de atrair mais turistas e dar a conhecer de uma forma mais explícita toda a história do arquipélago e da cidade, potenciando a história, o património, a cultura e o valor pelo qual a cidade foi distinguida.
This Master’s thesis covers the entire history of Cabo Verde, officially recognized as Republic of Cabo Verde, since it was discovered in the beginning of XV century, more precisely in 1460, by Portuguese explorers and their colonization, the first Portuguese settlement in the tropics, more specifically the first settlement of the Portuguese in the tropics. Mainly, this project focus in the first capital of the archipelago of Cabo Verde. The Ribeira Grande, nowadays called Cidade Velha, which is carrier of a unique history, being the first place colonized by Portuguese people, where the slave trade and the Creole nation were born. In the last decades of the XX century, the tourism of Cabo Verde has been one of the most developed sector, recognized as World heritage in June 2009, starting to be an international reference as a touristic destiny. So that, this thesis promotes the economic and tourist increase of the country, introducing a proposal of a museum for Cidade Velha, as a way to attract more tourists and making known more explicitly all the history of the archipelago and the city, enhancing the history, the heritage, the culture and the value that made city awarded.
