Esta dissertação surge de uma necessidade de criação de uma estrutura museológica de salvaguarda, interpretação e divulgação das ruínas de Centum-Cellas, um dos mais emblemáticos edifícios Romanos em Portugal, situada em Belmonte, na Freguesia do Comeal da Torre, que se encontra numa situação de quase abandono.
As ruínas romanas do Centum-Cellas fazem parte de um leque mais alargado de património arqueológico romano no concelho de Belmonte, propondo assim um espaço de exposição sobre a ruína com um olhar próximo sobre a mesma; acolhendo também material de todos esses locais num só espaço criando assim condições que poderão possibilitar o crescimento do Turismo Cultural da região.
O museu Centum-Cellas é um espaço, uma experiência arquitectónica que preserva vestígios e marcas de um quotidiano, de uma população e de uma época, que importa conhecer e recordar; com uma atmosfera própria que se relaciona com o indivíduo de uma forma mais íntima que associamos a uma ideia de quietude e intemporalidade mas, ao mesmo tempo, com um papel interactivo e educativo.
This dissertation arises from the need to create a museum structure to safeguard, interpreter and promote the ruins of Centum-Cellas, one of most outstanding Roman structures in Portugal, located in Belmonte, in the parish of Comeal da Torre in Portugal, which is in a state of semi- abandonment. The Roman ruins of Centum-Cellas are part of a wide roman archaeological heritage in the Council of Belmonte, thus proposing an exhibition space relating to the ruins, with a closer look on the same, but which will also accept material from all these places, creating conditions to increase the cultural tourism in the region. The museum of Centum-Cellas is a space, an architectural experience, which will preserve traces and marks of the daily life of a population and an era, which is important to know and remind, with its own atmosphere that connects the individual in a more intimate way, that we associate to a peaceful and timeless idea, but at the same time, with an interactive and educational role.
