Abstract(s)
This dissertation deals with a feasibility study for the implementation of a battery workshop in the airline “Transporte Interilhas de Cabo Verde”, whose headquarters and operating base are in the archipelago of Cape Verde. Despite the geographical, economic, and social constraints of the country, this work presents a feasible proposal for the establishment of a nickel-cadmium battery workshop that meets the needs of the company and considers the regulations and laws of the Civil Aviation Authority of Cape Verde. The main objective of the TICV company is to reduce battery maintenance costs, to have a higher profitability from the staff/technicians, as well as to improve the availability of the airplanes. The work is based on the ACC's CV-card part 6 regulation, which defines the standards for aircraft maintenance in Cape Verde. Nickel-cadmium (NiCd) batteries are widely used in aircraft because of their high energy density, robustness, and fast chargeability. There are two main types of NiCd battery systems used in aircraft: the main battery system and the emergency battery system. The main battery system provides power for the aircraft's main electrical systems, including lighting systems, avionics, and engine starters, while the emergency battery system is used in case the main system fails.
