Abstract(s)
arquitetura deve intervir nestas evidências, apoiar outras arquiteturas e dar
The present work consists of investigating the concepts of memory and place based on the design of a proposal for the Interpretive Center of the Nave (CIN), located in Serra da Nave, Moimenta da Beira. This region contains a vast heritage that provides clues about how humans have occupied the territory in different phases of history. However, as evidenced in various regions of the country, especially in the countryside, this heritage is forgotten, abandoned, and consequently devalued. Architecture should intervene in these evidences, support other architectures, and continue the complex chronology of construction symbiotically with the past, memory, and its place. Memory and Place are two inseparable concepts that are allied to the history of the Human footprint. A theoretical foundation is made on these two themes related to the conceptualization process of the architectural idea and how architecture adapts to its context based on these two themes. The conceptualization of the idea is supported through a study that focuses on practical cases addressing the themes of Place and Memory, namely, Peter Zumthor, David Chipperfield, and Eduardo Souto de Moura. The purpose of this dissertation is to evoke the discussion around the rich heritage that is forgotten, leading to the alienation of collective memory, not only of a certain region, but of the country, the continent, the world, as history is a set of interconnected experiences globally, with the region, "Terras do Demo," being part of this vast network. It is pertinent to recognize our history in order to understand a particular territory and what it may mean for the memory of an individual and a people.
