O tema desta dissertação – Arquitetura para um Envelhecimento Ativo: Proposta de
Complexo Residencial em Barcelos – surge com a vontade de compreender e relacionar
a arquitetura com o envelhecimento. A dissertação aborda os desafios enfrentados na
velhice, considerando o aumento da esperança média de vida e a necessidade de
alternativas de habitação para idosos. O estudo destaca a importância de garantir
cuidados, privacidade, intimidade e independência aos idosos, adaptando a arquitetura
às mudanças sociais.
O foco principal do desenvolvimento da proposta, incide na conceção de um Complexo
Residencial na freguesia de Martim, concelho de Barcelos. A pesquisa propõe uma
reflexão sobre a relação entre espaço arquitetónico e a cura, visando o Envelhecimento
Ativo, destacando a influência da qualidade da habitação no bem-estar físico e
psicológico. Destaca-se a importância de repensar o acolhimento em instituições. De
modo geral pretende-se compreender o papel da arquitetura na valorização de espaços
residenciais para idosos, proporcionando autonomia, conforto, acesso aos cuidados de
saúde e integração social.
O estudo divide-se em revisão de literatura sobre envelhecimento, análise de espaços
residenciais para idosos (com analise de referências de projeto, nacionais e
internacionais) e a proposta de um projeto para suprir a carência de equipamentos
direcionados para idosos. O projeto procura preencher a lacuna na sociedade, refletindo
sobre o papel da arquitetura na construção da felicidade humana e propondo novas
formas de habitação sensíveis às necessidades dos idosos.
The theme of this dissertation – Architecture for Active Ageing: Proposal for a Residential Complex in Barcelos – arises from the desire to understand and relate architecture to ageing. The dissertation addresses the challenges faced in old age, considering the increase in average life expectancy and the need for housing alternatives for the elderly. The study emphasizes the importance of ensuring care, privacy, intimacy, and independence for the elderly, adapting architecture to social changes. The main focus of the proposal's development is on the design of a Residential Complex in the parish of Martim, Barcelos municipality. The research proposes a reflection on the relationship between architectural space and healing, aiming at Active Aging and highlighting the influence of housing quality on physical and psychological well-being. The importance of rethinking accommodation in institutions is emphasized. Overall, the aim is to understand the role of architecture in enhancing residential spaces for the elderly, providing autonomy, comfort, access to healthcare, and social integration. The study is divided into a literature review on ageing, analysis of residential spaces for the elderly (with the examination of project references, both national and international), and the proposal of a project to address the lack of facilities specifically designed for the elderly. The project seeks to fill the gap in society, reflecting on the role of architecture in constructing human happiness and proposing new forms of housing sensitive to the needs of the elderly.
