Abstract(s)
A proposta
sazonais.
For considering that the past incorporates important values for a greater understanding and appreciation of the historical and cultural wealth, the present dissertation addresses the importance of the rehabilitation and preservation of buildings that carry human memories and local history (or narrative). The study case focuses on two buildings located in the corner of one of the blocks in the northern area of the city of Águeda, between Avenida Dr. Joaquim de Melo and Travessa Joinal, facing the renowned garden Conde de Sucena. The garden has on its western limit the national road No 1 (EN1), the Santa Casa da Misericórdia and the hospital Conde de Sucena. The location is privileged given the proximity to both train station and the bus station and is a possible point of support for pilgrims on Santiago paths and pilgrims of Fátima. The architectural originality of this corner is linked to its complexity, being organized through two neighboring buildings, but not contiguous on its street front, where one features poor conditions, although it is still inhabited and the other in more accentuated state of degradation and vacant. In this sense, these two buildings have great referential and tourist potential. The proposal aims to revitalize these two buildings, transforming them into temporary accommodation equipment (hostel), with the support of a dining area, in particular a restaurant, to avoid the lack of functionalism and the negative consequences of its possible seasonal occupations, increasing the attractiveness of the place that will stimulate the economic and social development of the city. The recovery/rehabilitation of the building will not alter the original architectural characteristics but redirect and transform them towards a new functionality and parameters of contemporary architectural, constructive and sustainability quality. In this proposal, the intention to restore vitality prevails, from what was once the stage of leisure and conviviality from the citizens of Águeda.
