Abstract(s)
lugar tenha diferentes sensaƧƵes visuais, olfativas e auditivas.
The present dissertation addresses the thematic of building rehabilitation, through a proposed approach of a manor house in Trancoso. It is a pertinent theme, as there are several buildings throughout the country with an advanced degradation status, particularly in the city's historical centers, and so should be recovered to enhance all its value as worthy study cases, providing them with new functions as a response to societies actual needs. Initially, a survey will be carried out about the studied building, named āVilla Cruzā and located in the medieval city of Trancoso. This dissertation aims to preserve the existing, as is believed the old buildings have a unique cultural identity that must be safeguarded. Be aware of the building's past is an essential step to understand its identity, as well as the memories that form its cultural heritage. It should be noted that the municipality of Trancoso has several initiatives and incentives concerning the rehabilitation of the historic centers and in its surroundings, as it's the case of the PalĆ”cio Ducal and the Castle of Trancoso. For this purpose, the municipality intends to develop several projects aiming to dinamize the city and support the areas of the Arts and Tourism, presenting a differentiating offer to promote the region. This study elaborates a rehabilitation proposal for the old manor house, which was once home to the Earls of Tavarede, an illustrious portuguese family in Trancoso. Being a 20th century building, it has its long history semented by several generations that passed through it, but also by different construction periods. Due to its degradation status, the building urgently needs an intervention to safeguard its entire cultural heritage. The main focus of the proposal is the creation of a guesthouse that corelates the two recovered main houses, forming a new body embedded in the land. The existing gardens, fountain and paths are preserved, and so it happens with the arboreal space. The new body, with social functions and a museum wing, separates these two gardens with different and unique characteristics, allowing visitors to experiment a multiplicity of visual, olfactory and auditory sensations.
