Abstract(s)
Ao longo dos séculos, os espaços de atenção à saúde estiveram ligados a questões
religiosas, científicas e humano-científicas e, têm vindo a evoluir de acordo com o
desenvolvimento da Ciência Médica. Da casa de acolhimento ao hospital terapêutico,
esses edifícios vêm mudando sucessivamente, e transformando-se sob a influência de
fatores externos e internos, demandas sociais e políticas e principalmente, sob as
expectativas e as crescentes necessidades em relação à saúde.
A dissertação em questão, trata-se de um esboço da evolução histórica das tipologias do
hospital português, com base no conceito de tipo e de tipologia e seu papel na teoria e na
prática arquitetónica, frente a situação em rápida mudança em que as funções, bem como
as tipologias, estão em constante fluxo. O objetivo é conhecer o processo evolutivo,
descrever as especificidades, as influências e as tendências que marcaram a arquitetura
hospitalar em Portugal. Os hospitais selecionados para análise tipológica, são complexos
hospitalares construídos nos finais da Idade Média e início do século XXI. O marco
cronológico em estudo pode exprimir uma cronologia longa, porém, a ideia é descrever
a evolução tipológica de forma lacônica.
Over the centuries, healthcare spaces have been linked to religious, scientific and humanscientific issues and have evolved in line with the development of medical science. From shelters to therapeutic hospitals, these buildings have successively changed and transformed under the influence of external and internal factors, social and political demands and, above all, expectations and growing health needs. The dissertation in question is an outline of the historical evolution of Portuguese hospital typologies, based on the concept of type and typology and their role in architectural theory and practice, in the face of a rapidly changing situation in which functions, as well as typologies, are in constant flux. The aim is to learn about the evolutionary process, describe the specificities, influences and trends that have marked hospital architecture in Portugal. The hospitals selected for typological analysis are hospital complexes built at the end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of the 21st century. The chronological framework under study may express a long chronology, but the idea is to describe the typological evolution in a laconic way.
