| dc.description.abstract | O núcleo urbano antigo da cidade de Setúbal, localizado na bacia hidrográfica do Sado, apresenta-se com uma massa edificada com um valor cultural presente nos seus monumentos e também na arquitectura civil, de carácter corrente. No decorrer de séculos, contando já com milénios, que a cidade atravessou ocorreu a construção do sítio, marcada pela influência do Rio Sado, com a sua formação a Vila e depois a Cidade, mas também as suas várias transformações provocadas pelas vicissitudes do tempo, nomeadamente as causas político-administrativas e as catástrofes, como sejam os sismos, que apagaram marcas identitárias do local, mas não destruíram a sua essência. No séc. XIV foi construída a muralha medieval e no séc. XVII, na sequência da Restauração de 1640, foi construída uma nova linha de defesa, as quais constituem um património relevante que marcou a morfologia urbana. Se estas muralhas contribuíram para a consolidação da povoação os sismos ocorridos nos séculos seguintes, em 1755 e em 1858, provocaram graves danos em todo o edificado, igrejas, palácios, habitações e também nas estruturas de defesa. A expressão arquitectónica presente nos seus arruamentos é, na generalidade, a que resulta das consequências destas catástrofes, registando-se a persistência do desenho e a continuidade da anterior arquitectura. Neste estudo pretendemos perceber e assinalar as características próprias da arquitectura do lugar, identificativas da sua tipologia, o que significa conhecer a história do seu povo, do seu território, das tecnologias, e das tendências culturais e artísticas da respectiva época, cuja herança deveremos salvaguardar na construção de um futuro próprio do local. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | The old core of the city of Setúbal located the hydrographic basin of Sado, presents with a mass built with a cultural value in its monuments and also in civil architecture, of common character. In the course of centuries, having already millennia, that went through the city, it occurred the construction of the place, marked by the influence of the River Sado, with its training to Village and later to City, but also their various transformations caused by time variability, including the political and administrative causes, and disasters, such as earthquakes, which erased identity marks of the place, but did not destroy its essence. In the century XIV was built the medieval walls and in the century XVII, following the Restoration of 1640, was built a new line of defense which constitutes an important heritage that marked the urban morphology. If these city walls contributed to the consolidation of the village, the earthquakes in the following centuries, in 1755 and in 1858, caused severe damage in the buildings, churches, palaces, houses and also in defense structures. The architectural expression in its streets is, in general, which resulting of the consequences of these disasters, noting the persistence of the drawing and the influence of the previous architecture. In this study we pretend to understand and point out the own characteristics of the architecture of the place, identifiable of their typology, which means knowing the history of its people, of its territory, of the technology, and of the cultural and artistic trends of respective epoch, whose legacy we must safeguard in building a future own of the site. | pt_PT |
