Abstract(s)
voltam a despertar interesse.
Rehabilitation over the last few years has gained a greater importance in historical and cultural society. In this way, some of the oldest and most emblematic buildings of the city of Olhão once again gain interest. The great tourist mass that arrives in the Algarve every year and the way it catches the attention of those who pass through it for the first time and who find it a simple to way of life, attracts more and more investors and eventually more inhabitants, not only from other countries but also Portuguese. This study aims at a current approach, giving importance to the city of Olhão, that has been grown over the years thanks to the dedication of the inhabitants and the effort of the fishermen who aimed to have a city facing the sea, cultivating and maintaining always an influence from the North of Africa in their modest houses. However, this large and accelerated growth would lead the city to become a small labyrinth of small white cubic houses, not very tall and quite narrow. The two mills at each end, one in the neighborhood of Barreta and another in the neighborhood of Sete Cotovelos, influenced the initial expansion, developing later way up north, where would arise another type of housing, much larger and longer, unlike the main neighborhoods. These changes in cubist architecture arouse the interest of perceiving the development of the city, the characteristics and methods of construction, the differences of materials used and their foundations. Four projects will be proposed in cubist houses, each in a part of the city that has different characteristics. These houses variate in size, length and height, presenting us all the main characteristics of the city.
