- Development of an Attitude Determination and Control System for ANTAEUSPublication . Guerreiro, Guilherme Gomes; Guerman, Anna; Branco, JoãoThe Astrophysical Nanosatellite for Technological Advancement and High-Energy Universe Studies (ANTAEUS) is a CubeSat project developed by students of several institutions, mainly the universities of Beira Interior (UBI), Porto (FEUP), and Coimbra (UC), whose main mission objective is the measurement of gamma-ray bursts from distant galaxies. To this effect, the satellite must perform a series of spectroscopy, imaging and polarization techniques and relay the resulting data back to ground. This dissertation details the design, development, modelling and validation of the Attitude and Orbital Determination and Control System (AODCS) which will enable the correct pointing conditions for the retrieval of relevant scientific data for the mission. One of the underlying goals of the project is to use low-cost and low-power hardware, namely the use of a magnetorquer board and a single reaction wheel, making the actuator subsystem the main driver for the proposed control solution. The AODCS consists of an Extended Kalman Filter for attitude estimation, guidance modes for nadir and inertial pointing, and a control block consisting of a pointing mode which integrates a proportional-derivative (PD) controller with a One-Step Greedy Actuator Management Function for actuator torque allocation. This system is modelled using MATLAB Simulink®. The proposed subsystem was tested against a detailed model of the satellite environment, including the Earth's magnetic field, solar radiation pressure, gravity gradient and the atmospheric drag present in Low Earth Orbit. This model demonstrates successful pointing and mission results using a novel controller which can be applied in complex aerospace control systems with diverse applications.
