A presente investigaĆ§Ć£o subordinada ao tema do terrorismo religioso na regiĆ£o dos
Grandes Lagos Africanos tem como objectivo compreender o ascendente nĆvel de
proliferaĆ§Ć£o de violĆŖncia terrorista que se regista nos Ćŗltimos tempos na regiĆ£o.
O terrorismo contemporĆ¢neo representa hoje um dos temas mais discutidos e de difĆcil
explicaĆ§Ć£o no campo das ciĆŖncias sociais, daĆ a razĆ£o por que diversas pesquisas sobre este
tema, e em particular na Ć”rea cientĆfica das RelaƧƵes Internacionais, procuram aprofundar
estudos acerca do fenĆ³meno com o propĆ³sito de apresentar uma imagem mais prĆ³xima do
que estarĆ” por detrĆ”s da proliferaĆ§Ć£o repentina a partir do inĆcio do sĆ©culo XXI. Contudo,
os conflitos na regiĆ£o dos Grandes Lagos Africanos datam de longos tempos, mas com
uma onda crescente nos Ćŗltimos anos, cujas causas podem ser analisadas com base nas
novas dinĆ¢micas imprimidas nas sociedades actuais. De qualquer forma, os governos da
regiĆ£o dos Grandes Lagos Africanos tĆŖm-se mostrado incapazes quando chamados para
reverter os problemas que afectam os seus Estados.
Esta investigaĆ§Ć£o analisa este fenĆ³meno a partir das lentes dos estudos crĆticos de
seguranƧa e debruƧa-se sobre os principais movimentos terroristas ali existentes para
procurar compreender a situaĆ§Ć£o actual do terrorismo naquela parcela do continente
africano.
The present research on the topic of terrorism in the African Great Lakes Region aims to understand the rising level of proliferation of terrorist violence that has been registered recently in the region. Contemporary terrorism is one of the most discussed and difficult to explain subjects in the field of social sciences, hence the reason why several researches on this theme, and particularly in the scientific area of International Relations, seek to deepen studies on the phenomenon with the purpose of presenting an image closer to what undergirds the sudden proliferation from the beginning of the 21st century. However, conflicts in the African Great Lakes region date back a long time ago, but with a growing wave in recent years, the causes of which can be analyzed based on the new dynamics in today's societies. In any case, governments in the African Great Lakes region have been incapable of dealing with this phenomenon when called upon to reverse the problems affecting their states. This research analyzes this phenomenon from the lens of critical security studies and looks at the main terrorist movements in the region to try to understand the current situation of terrorism in that part of the African continent.
