Abstract(s)
Diabetes is a disease that affects millions of people and is tending to grow. Currently a large set of the population is facing a chronic and incurable disease that is increasingly present in their daily lives. There are basically two types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2. In addition to differences in symptomatology and treatment, they differ in the population they reach. Type 1 diabetes affects children and adolescents, and type 2 affects mainly the population between 30 and 69 years, and avoiding overweight and a sedentary lifestyle could prevent many cases. In order to avoid further complications, the control of this disease requires not only drugs and tests, but also diet, physical exercises and an emotional balance. These aspects have a direct influence in the disease, which have become out of control, deteriorating patients clinical state. Additionally, several authors consider diabetes mellitus a psychosomatic illness, namely, it is influenced by emotional factors in its etiology, reason why it is necessary to reflect on the importance of psychological care. The present study aims to analyse glycemia levels and psychopathological functioning between type 2 diabetics and non-diabetics, in order to understand the relationship between them and psychopathological functioning. The analysis of the results of these two groups, which compares the levels and estimates the moderating effect of glucose on psychopathological functioning, allows us to verify whether or not glycemia levels interfere with levels of psychopathological functioning.
