Abstract(s)
Violence in intimate relationships is seen as an adoption of violent acts on one's partner through violent psychological, physical, and sexual behaviors, which can consequently harm the physical and mental health of the victim. This type of violence can be used both, in dating relationships as in couples. In Portugal, several studies have shown that a significant portion of university students adopt violent attitudes towards their partner in their intimate relationships. In this sense, a depression is one of the mental health problems and most reported by victims of intimate relationship violence. Therefore, when compared as victims with non-victims of this type of violence, the first are those that present a greater tendency to develop depressive symptomatology. Thus, the main objective of the research is to analyze a relationship between a form of violent behavior in the developmental and developmental relations of depression in college students. The present study is of a quantitative nature, with transversal, correlational and descriptive design. The sample is made up of 340 university students, of which 187 (55.0%) are female and 153 (45.0%) are male. Of the analyzed sample, about 222 (65.3%) of the mentioned individuals were submitted to psychological aggression behavior, 94 (27.6%) of physical abuse without sequels, 83 (24.4%) of sexual coercion and 19 (5.6%) of physical abuse with sequels. The results showed a positive correlation between psychological aggression, sexual coercion and physical abuse without sequelae and a presence of depressive symptomatology in university students.
