Abstract(s)
The main purpose of this study was to contribute to the characterization and evaluation of Resilience and Self-Care in patients diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, their variation according to the variables of sex and age, as well as the relationship between the two variables – Resilience and Self-Care. The sample consisted of 71 adults diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, aged between 43 and 91 years old. A Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Adult Resilience Scale (ARS) and the Diabetes Self-Care Activities Scale were administered. It was possible to observe that female participants have a tendency towards the prevalence of both Diabetes Self-Care behaviours and Resilience – when compared to male individuals. It was possible to observe a decrease in Self-Care behaviours with increasing age. Furthermore, a positive relationship was found between Resilience and Self-Care, as well as the predictive capacity of Resilience in Self-Care.
