Abstract(s)
distress.
This study aimed to evaluate compaission, hedonic and eudaimonic motives and psychological distress in adults. Following the general objetive, it is intended to characterize the indicators of compassion, well-being (guidelines) and psychological distress; to check if there are significant diferences in terms of compassion, well-being (guidelines) and distress due to some sociodemographic variables (sex and age) and to analyze the relationship between compassion, well-being (guidelines) and psychological distress. The sample of this investigation consists of 421 participants, aged between 18 and 66 years (M = 32.56), of which 321 are female and 97 male. The instruments were: Sociodemographic Questionaire; The Compassionate Engagement and Action Scales (CEAS); Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K6) and the Hedonic Eudaimonic and Extrinsic Motives for Activities Scale (HEEMA). The results indicated statistically significant differeences, as a function of sex in Compassion with others, with women having a higher score, while the men have higher results in Self-Compassion, although without statistical significance. As for well-being, men showed higher scores, whereas in distress women scored more, but both without statistically significant differences. In compassion, well-being and distress as a function of age, there are no statistically significant differences. However, it was the youngest individuals (=20 years) who had the most distress. It also found that only the Motivation/extrinsic orientation and Self-compassion are correlated with distress.
