Abstract(s)
Healthcare Supply Chain (HSC) is a complex and heterogenic field, with several stakeholders, which involves different types of entities. It is known that good HSC performance in health systems can improve quality of care while reducing financial wastage by optimizing its efficiency. The objective of this study is to evaluate the state of art of HSC performance, as to verify the main areas that influences it. A systematic literature review was performed, focused on studies that investigates HSC performance in hospital environment with impact on a health system level, including 61 articles. The main result of this study was the statistically significant finding that the number of studies that evaluates the performance HSC has increased since 2010. However, it was not found a statistically significant increase in the number of studies with results analyzed by statistically significant tests. A theoretical framework was developed with the main areas that influences HSC performance, and its sub-areas. Of those areas, it was only found that "Performance Evaluation" is statistically associated with the performance of HSC. The other areas found, "Management Practices" and "Supply Chain Practices", are not statistically associated with the performance of the HSC. Therefore, it is suggested the development studies with statistical significance analysis of the results, so that in the future it will be possible to assess the influence of these themes. Further studies should also be conducted to compare HSC performance at the national health system level from different countries using standardized indicators. The main contribution of this study to the academic literature was its results, with evaluation of statistical significance. Such types of results were not found in any of the 15 literature reviews analyzed by this investigation. The study of HSC performance can improve the quality of health care while reduces financial waste, by optimizing HSC efficiency and guaranteeing rational use of medicines and medical products.
