Abstract(s)
Point-of-care ultrasonography is a recent and evolving concept in medicine. Its relevance in current clinical practice raises the issue of its teaching in the undergraduate medical curriculum. Thus, it is urgent to revise the state of the art and its role in the education of future physicians. By analyzing the existing scientific literature to date, this work contextualizes this new concept in the modern era of medicine and establishes a parallelism between the current state of ultrasound teaching in North America and Europe medical schools. The implementation of this imaging modality in the undergraduate medical education is already a reality in countries such as the United States of America, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom among others. The confrontation of these frameworks reveal that this process is heterogeneous between countries and even within the same country. This new and recent reality deserves to be subject to reflection and many issues related to the implementation of teaching, the curricular molds and its advantages and limitations are presented throughout this dissertation.
