Abstract(s)
Portanto, compreender as caracterĂsticas
Atualmente, as abordagens terapĂȘuticas
This report for the masterâs degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences is structured into two chapters: Chapter 1 reports a bibliographic revision about the therapeutic applications of drugs targeting senescent cells for brain diseases, while Chapter 2 details professional experiences in Community Pharmacy. Chapter 1 explores âCellular Senescence: Therapeutic Perspectives for Neurodegenerative Diseasesâ. In an increasingly elderly global population, longevity reflects advancements in technology and healthcare, yet it also presents significant challenges. Adding years to life does not inherently improve quality of life, especially as aging is often accompanied by complex age-related diseases. Cellular senescence, a biological process integral to development yet detrimental in aging, is closely linked to various age-related diseases, making it a key mechanism in the aging process. As a result, understanding the distinct characteristics of senescent cells is crucial for developing effective therapeutic strategies. By exploring the intersection of "biological aging - cellular senescence - neurodegenerative diseases", the scientific community has focused on investigating the potential benefits of selectively eliminating senescent cells to enhance the health and well-being of the elderly. Currently, therapeutic approaches targeting cellular senescence can be categorized into two distinct pharmacological strategies: 1st gerenation senolytic and senomorphic interventions. This research focuses on the review of the therapeutic applications of selected compoundsâ specifically, the senolytic combination Dasatinib, Quercetin and Navitoclax alongside the senomorphic agents such as, Metformin and Rapamycinâin the context of neurodegenerative diseases and cognitive decline. Pre-clinical trials have demonstrated the potential efficacy of these age-specific therapies, indicating promising outcomes in age-related disease management. Nevertheless, ongoing clinical trials are predominantly in phase I/II stages, requiring further comprehensive and randomized studies. In conclusion, senolytic and senomorphic interventions represent versatile and promising pharmacological strategies for addressing neurodegenerative diseases associated with cellular senescence. Chapter 2 is devoted to the internship report detailing the professional experience in the realm of Community Pharmacy at FarmĂĄcia Ribeirabravense. It outlines the flow of medications and diverse health products, illustrating the active and multifaceted role of the community pharmacist through lived and documented experiences. This firsthand experience underscores the dynamic and multifaceted responsibilities undertaken by community pharmacists.
