Esta dissertação descreve a minha experiência profissionalizante para a obtenção do grau de
Mestre em Ciências Farmacêuticas através de três vertentes: Investigação, Farmácia
Comunitária e Farmácia Hospitalar.
O Capítulo I descreve o trabalho de investigação realizado. A enzima telomerase e as funções
que esta desempenha na célula são essenciais para a compreensão, por um lado, do processo
de envelhecimento e, por outro lado, dos mecanismos que levam ao desenvolvimento de
cancro. A mitocôndria enquanto organelo essencial para a célula assume também um papel
muito importante nas vias que conduzem ao aparecimento de cancro. Tendo em conta que a
telomerase está presente nas mitocôndrias, poderá existir uma relação entre a telomerase
mitocondrial e o desenvolvimento de cancro, nomeadamente de cancro da mama? Este trabalho
pretendeu, através de revisão da literatura, esclarecer essa relação e teve também como
objetivo apresentar a estrutura e as funções da telomerase, com especial atenção na
telomerase mitocondrial. A relação específica entre a telomerase mitocondrial e o surgimento
de cancro da mama está em fase inicial de estudo, sendo necessárias mais investigações
científicas que abordem esta questão. No entanto, será espectável que a atividade mitocondrial
da telomerase possa vir a ser considerada determinante para o desenvolvimento de cancro da
mama e que esta atividade possa levar ao surgimento de novas terapias oncológicas.
No Capítulo II encontra-se o relatório de estágio em Farmácia Comunitária. Este descreve a
minha experiência de estágio na Farmácia da Estação, localizada na Guarda, e os
conhecimentos obtidos durante esse período. São referidas as particularidades inerentes ao
funcionamento de uma farmácia e ao trabalho diário de um Farmacêutico Comunitário.
Por fim, o Capítulo III diz respeito ao relatório de estágio em Farmácia Hospitalar realizado nos
Serviços Farmacêuticos do Hospital Sousa Martins da Guarda. Neste é descrito o funcionamento
dos Serviços Farmacêuticos, as diversas funções desempenhadas pelo Farmacêutico, assim
como, as competências e conhecimentos adquiridos durante o período de estágio.
The presented dissertation describes my professional experience in order to obtain my Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences through three fields: Research, Community Pharmacy and Hospital Pharmacy. Chapter I describes the developed research. The enzyme telomerase and its functions in the cell are essential for understanding, on the one hand, the ageing process and, on the other hand, the mechanisms that lead to cancer development. Mitochondria is an essential organelle for the cell and plays as well a very important role in the pathways that lead to cancer. Taking into account that telomerase is present in mitochondria, could there be a relationship between mitochondrial telomerase and the development of cancer, particularly breast cancer? This work intended, through literature review, to clarify this relationship and intended to present the structure and functions of telomerase, with special attention to mitochondrial telomerase. The specific relationship between mitochondrial telomerase and the development of breast cancer is in the early stages of study, and further scientific research is needed to approach this question. However, it is expected that the mitochondrial activity of telomerase may be considered determinant for the development of breast cancer and that their activity may lead to new cancer therapies. Chapter II contains the Community Pharmacy internship report. It describes my experience in Farmácia da Estação, located in Guarda, and the knowledge obtained during the internship period. Is reported the functioning of the pharmacy and the daily work of a Community Pharmacist. Finally, Chapter III refers to the Hospital Pharmacy internship report made in the Pharmaceutical Services of the Hospital Sousa Martins, in Guarda. It describes the functioning of the Pharmaceutical ervices, the various functions performed by the Pharmacist, as well the skills and knowledge acquired during the internship period.
