Abstract(s)
A localização central privilegiada do Mercado 2 de Maio impulsionaria tanto o potencial
a nível social, como económico da cidade de Viseu. No entanto, durante a última
década, a utilização do antigo mercado de frescos tem vindo a decair.
É através de um calendário regular de eventos, que o plano de revitalização e
dinamização do Centro Histórico - levado a cabo pela Câmara Municipal de Viseu -
procura, desde 2014, devolver a vida ao mercado e oferecer os seus serviços à cidade
365 dias por ano.
A ausência de uma cobertura neste local tem marcado um obstáculo à dinamização do
espaço e à realização de eventos ao longo do ano, devido à imprevisibilidade das
condições climatéricas. Consequentemente, o leque de possibilidades face ao
desenvolvimento do potencial do centro histórico é reduzido, levando ao empobrecer
do aproveitamento das suas virtudes.
Assim, a instalação da cobertura procura o reavivar e dinamizar da praça histórica de
Viseu, dotando-a das condições de usabilidade e conforto necessárias para a realização
de eventos e mercados durante todo o ano. Além disso, impulsiona e fomenta a
sustentabilidade dos negócios e atividades locais ali instalados, gerando expetativas
para um futuro promissor.

It is through a regular calendar of events that the revitalization and dynamization plan of the Historic Center - carried out by the City Council of Viseu - seeks, since 2014, to return the life to the market and offer its services to the city 365 days a year . The absence of a cover in this place has been an obstacle to the dynamism of the space and events throughout the year, due to the unpredictability of the weather. Consequently, the range of possibilities for the development of the potential of the historical center is reduced, leading to the impoverishment of the use of its virtues. Therefore, the installation of the coverage seeks to revive and revitalize the historical square of Viseu, providing it with the conditions of usability and comfort necessary for holding events and markets throughout the year. In addition, it promotes and fosters the sustainability of the local businesses and activities installed there, generating expectations for a promising future.
