Medo ao COVID-19 e Ansiedade Generalizada em Estudantes do Ensino Superior em contexto de Pandemia

| dc.description.abstract | Em 2020 vimos surgir um novo vírus e com ele uma nova pandemia designada COVID19. Tendo em conta as medidas adotadas pelos países para impedir a transmissão do vírus e os dados de outras pandemias, espera-se que sejam desencadeadas reações emocionais como o medo e a ansiedade, em diferentes segmentos populacionais, como é o caso dos estudantes do ensino superior. Deste modo, o objetivo desta investigação é analisar o comportamento das variáveis Medo ao COVID-19 e Ansiedade Generalizada nesta população, e possíveis associações entre as mesmas. O trabalho inicia-se com um esforço de contextualização teórica através de uma revisão bibliográfica acerca das variáveis Medo ao COVID-19 e Perturbação de Ansiedade Generalizada, seguido da busca de trabalhos acerca da relação entre ambas e, posteriormente, quanto à variável género e doença crónica. Esta revisão deu lugar ao estabelecimento das hipóteses estudadas. O estudo contou com a participação de 318 estudantes do ensino superior, entre os 17 e 27 anos, sendo 23.9% (N=76) do sexo masculino e 76.1% (N=242) do sexo feminino. Estes participantes responderam à FCS-19 (Fear Covid Scale) (Ahorsu et al., 2020) e à GAD-7 (General Anxiety Didorder – 7) (Sousa et al, 2015). Os resultados mostram que os estudantes do ensino superior do sexo feminino relataram maior ansiedade e medo ao COVID-19 do que os estudantes do ensino superior do sexo masculino e, ainda, que ter uma doença crónica aumenta o medo ao covid-19. Verificou-se, que existe uma correlação moderada e positiva entre o medo ao COVID-19 e a ansiedade. Apurou-se, ainda, que o medo ao COVID-19 é preditor da ansiedade (GAD). | dc.description.abstract | In 2020 we saw the emergence of a new virus and with it a new pandemic called COVID-19. Considering the measures adopted by countries to prevent the transmission of the virus and the data from other pandemics, it is expected that emotional reactions such as fear and anxiety will be triggered in different segments of the population, such as higher education students. Thus, the aim of this research is to analyze the behavior of the variables Fear of COVID-19 and Generalized Anxiety in this population, and possible associations between them. The study begins with a theoretical contextualization effort through a literature review on the variables Fear of COVID-19 and Generalized Anxiety Disorder, followed by a search for studies on the relationship between the two, and then on gender and chronic illness. This review gave rise to the establishment of the studied hypotheses. The study had the participation of 318 higher education students, between 17 and 27 years old, 23.9% (N=76) male and 76.1% (N=242) female. These participants responded to the FCS-19 (Fear Covid Scale) (Ahorsu et al., 2020) and the GAD-7 (General Anxiety Didorder - 7) (Sousa et al, 2015). The results show that female higher education students reported greater anxiety and fear of COVID-19 than male higher education students, and that having a chronic illness increases their fear of covid-19. It was found that there is a moderate and positive correlation between fear of COVID-19 and anxiety. It was also found that fear of COVID-19 is a predictor of anxiety (GAD).
