Abstract(s)
As análises
Over the last few years, several studies indicate that levels of Mental Health Literacy (MHL) have been increasing. Therefore, it seems that there is a decrease in the levels of discrimination and stereotypes concerning mental illness. Thus, the present study aims to analyse the possible relationship between MHL and stigma in nurses. This is a quantitative, exploratory and cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 71 nurses, mostly female (76.1%), aged between 21 and 61 years. Participants answered a sociodemographic questionnaire, as well as the Mental Health Literacy Questionnaire – young adult (MHLq – young adult) and the Attribution Questionnaire (AQ-9) to assess stigma. The results revealed high levels of MHL as well as above-average levels of stigma. Some relationships were observed between MHL and stigma factors with educational qualifications, as well as with having or not having a specialty. Statistical analysis also reveals relationships, mostly negative, between MHL and stigma. It concludes the importance of improving the levels of MHL to promote the reduction of levels of stigma.
