Abstract(s)
The main propose of this dissertation is to provide a basis for the development of a project to redevelop a industrial building that is not in use since 1998 in the city of Covilhã. The building is located closely to the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Beira Interior and to one of the watercourses in town.It was build by stages, spread over at least two centuries, resorting at first to the use of structural masonry and to the use of reinforced concrete in a second time. To be able to understand the interest in the analysis of the building is referred to the problems of industrial buildings, both in Europe and more specifically in the case of Covilhã. General approach for industrial buildings revitalization and technical rehabilitation meets however local specificity due to different time and techniques of structures erection, but also due to different functional and technological demands. Industrial buildings located in area of Covilha were built since XVII century for the needs of early textile industry, and as majority of buildings in the area the main structural material was granite stone. Knowledge of traditional building techniques, specific for this area is essential for creating plan of effective and respectful technical rehabilitation process of one of historical building in Covilhã.
