Abstract(s)
recorrendo a plantas.
enquadramento ético, legal e financeiro, permitindo-me compreender de forma clara e
profícua a importância do papel do farmacêutico comunitário em contexto real.
This dissertation is inserted in the Curricular Unit “Internship”, of the Integrated Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences. This work is divided into 3 chapters, which describe, respectively, my professional experience in research, hospital pharmacy and community pharmacy. The first chapter is entitled “Origanum vulgare L.: chemical composition, bioactivities and therapeutic uses” and was carried out within the scope of the research component, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Branca Maria Cardoso Monteiro da Silva. Currently, phytotherapy is particularly important as society seeks natural alternatives with fewer side effects for the treatment of numerous diseases. This research work aimed to study the chemical composition, bioactivities and therapeutic uses of Origanum vulgare. The research methodology consisted of a bibliographic search of technical and scientific information about this botanical specie, using different databases. The authors are unanimous in considering that compounds present in essential oil, namely thymol and carvacrol, and phenolic compounds, in particular rosmarinic acid, caffeic acid, pcumaric acid, protocatechuic acid and quercetin, prove to be the main active ingredients responsible for the therapeutic effects. The literature review concluded that Origanum vulgare is a highly valuable source of compounds with important biological effects, in particular the antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. These results may open new directions for research to design new drugs of high therapeutic relevance, using plants. The second chapter refers to the internship in hospital pharmacy, developed in the period between September 8, 2020 to October 30, 2020 at the Pharmaceutical Services of the Cova da Beira Universitary Hospitalar Center, under the guidance of Dr. Olímpia Fonseca. This chapter describes the operation, organization and main areas of pharmaceutical activity in the different sectors of hospital pharmacy. This internship allowed me to be part of a multidisciplinary team and contact with one of the realities of the hospital pharmaceutical profession. The third chapter portrays my experience during the internship period in community pharmacy. This internship was developed at Pedroso pharmacy, located in the city of Covilhã, and took place from November 2, 2020 to January 22, 2021, under the guidance of Dr. João Vale. This component describes the activities performed daily in a community pharmacy context, as well as the ethical, legal and financial framework, allowing me to understand the importance of the community pharmacist in a real context.
