Abstract(s)
This report presents three areas experienced during my trainship inserted in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Master`s degree study plan: Community Pharmacy, Hospital Pharmacy and Research. The first chapter is related to the research work about traveler`s consultation and the pharmaceutical care for people who travel abroad. Travelling to tropical and subtropical countries has been increasing. The countries of Latin America and Portuguese-speaking countries, which are among the most travelled destinations worldwide, pose potential health risks so it is essential to make a good preparation for the trip. Consultation about travel abroad addresses preventive attitudes before, during and after the trip, which may include immunizations, the prescription of prophylactic medication and advice on food safety. Advice to travellers is determined by the destination and characteristics of the trip, as well as by the profile and health status of the person who wishes to travel abroad. It is at the initial consultation about travel abroad that recommendations and a prescription of a travel medicine kit may occur in accordance with the individual needs of the traveller. The aim of this study is prepare the Pharmaceutical Services for the travel consultation for people who travel abroad to Latin America and Portuguese-speaking countries. A literature review was performed by searching for scientific articles in the PubMed electronic database, intersecting the terms "travellersâ health" and "travelling internationally" and national and international tropical medicine official websites were also consulted. Analysis of the collected data originated three diverse kits for people who travel abroad to Portuguese-speaking countries and four kits for people who travel abroad to Latin America, according to destination and immunization status of the traveller. All kits include leaflets with necessary recommendations / preventive measures, adhesive bandages, disinfectant solution for wounds, plasters, ligatures, emollients eye-drops, sterile compresses,a clinical thermometer, an antiseptic, an antidiarrheal, an analgesic and antipyretic, an antihistamine, a nasal decongestant, oral rehydration salts, scissors and safety pins, a sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection as well as an insect repellent. In addition to those products, some kits should also include an antimalarial and a bed net for malaria prevention. The kits may undergo some changes in case of travellers with pre-existing medical conditions and / or special needs. The pre-manufactured kits and the leaflets will provide more adequate support for people who travel abroad to Latin America and Portuguese-speaking countries and will allow for standardization of information to the user. We believe that this information will prove useful, helping to provide quick and effective solutions to health issues related to travelling abroad, allowing the pharmacist to have an active role in prevention of health problems. The second chapter describes the activities developed through the Community Pharmacy performed in FarmĂĄcia Cristelo along three months and the third chapter is a reflection of skills acquired during my trainship in Hospital Pharmaceutical Services, undertaken in Hospital Center of TĂąmega and Sousa EPE., in two months. Both training periods allowed a positive evolution for my pharmaceutical and human future career.
