Abstract(s)
A obtenção
o estudo anterior.
Throughout their lifetime, road pavements are subjected to actions which contribute to a reduction of their quality, leading to the appearance of degradations. Obtaining data about the location and the degree of severity of this degradations allows for the evaluation of the quality of the road pavements which constitute a certain road network, supporting, in a sustainable way, the management of the financed resources allocated to its maintenance. In view of that sustainable management, the presented work intends to complete the system of monitoring deterioration in flexible road pavements by using a system, developed in a previous master’s thesis, which collects position data and video image through the incorporation of a laser scanning system in order to determine rut depth. The application of the rut depth measurement system to the practical case considered in the initial development of the methodology for monitoring degradation allowed to rectify problems related to the application and functioning of equipment, to compare the results to those obtained from a visual inspection on foot, to evaluate the level of reliability of the data, to identify the main advantages and disadvantages of the method in relation to the existing ones and to complete the previous study. The processing of the images and of the obtained data, with the integration of the information into a GIS (Geographical Information System), also allowed to conclude that the use of the developed system may be applied in urban and interurban road networks, reaching more reliable results about rut depth when compared to those obtained from a visual inspection done on foot. The complementation of the pavement monitoring system with the proposed developments allowed to increase the level of reliability of the quality of the evaluation of the pavements and the rate of the observation of the degradations, as well as to decrease the expenses involved in the pavement inspection operations.
