Abstract(s)
This study aims to understand if there is change in pupil diameter in the identification of false memories. Thus, it was established as an independent variable, the false memory and dependent variable was the change in pupil diameter. The present study has a quasi-experimental design, focusing on the Deese-Roediger-McDermott paradigm (1995), using six lists, each composed of eight words, each of which is associated with a critical word. Participated in this study, voluntarily, 45 students from the University of Beira Interior, and it were defined as exclusion criteria, people who had vision problems. These participants performed a memory experiment with duration of fifteen minutes and divided into three phases: the study phase, the implementation phase of a distractor task and the recognition phase. In this last phase, the pupil diameter was measured using eye tracking. Through the analysis of the results we can observe the manifestation of the DRM paradigm as well as the increase in pupil diameter in the presence of false memories. When analyzing pupil diameters before the various stimuli, it was found that there are no differences between males and females.
