O tema das Pequenas e Médias Empresas Familiares tem sido alvo de inúmeros estudos nos últimos anos, dado tratar-se de empresas singulares, que podem subsistir durante vários anos e até séculos. Atualmente são a forma empresarial predominante a nível mundial sendo por isso extremamente importantes para a economia mundial. Contudo, é consabido também, que dois dos principais problemas com que estas empresas se debatem é o acesso ao financiamento e o processo de sucessão. Neste sentido, através de entrevistas realizadas ao membro sénior (sucedido) e ao membro júnior (sucessor) de quatro empresas, o presente estudo pretende analisar as duas dimensões (financiamento e processo sucessório), com o intuito de compreender a relação entre o processo de sucessão e as decisões de financiamento.
The topic of family businesses has been the subject of countless studies in the last years. This has been occurred since these unique companies have been subsisted over several centuries. Nowadays, family businesses are the predominant form of business worldwide, which makes them extremely important to the world economy. However, there are two considerable problems faced by these companies. The first one is related to financing and the second with the succession process. Through interviews with senior members (successor) and junior members (successor) of four companies, the present study aims to analyze two dimensions (financing and succession process) to understand the relationship between the succession process and the financing decisions.
