A temática da Neuropatia Periférica consequente à acção de factores
ambientais/externos adversos, tem sido bastante estudada e enfatizada, posteriormente,
nas acções de carácter preventivo.
O chumbo é um metal pesado encontrado naturalmente na natureza mas que é
completamente estranho ao organismo humano, pelo que a sua exposição, mesmo em
quantidades mínimas, pode ser altamente nefasta para o homem. Os sintomas
neurológicos da intoxicação por este metal são, muitas vezes, os primeiros a serem
percepcionados pelos próprios indivíduos e pelos médicos assistentes, pelas alterações
físicas, mentais e comportamentais que provocam.
O presente trabalho, intitulado “Avaliação quantitativa dos níveis de chumbo
inorgânico em folhas de uma espécie de árvore de grande porte em diversas ruas da
cidade de Lisboa e sua correlação com a conhecida toxicidade do metal pesado para o
homem.”, propõe-se a dosear os níveis de chumbo em amostras foliares de árvores de
grande porte de diferentes locais de Lisboa, com diferentes índices de poluição, e
perceber se esses doseamentos apresentam valores preocupantes para a saúde das
populações.
Os valores obtidos na cidade de Lisboa e em curiosa comparação com duas
regiões do Interior do País, permitem concluir que os níveis de chumbo encontrados
reflectem uma exposição ambiental elevada a este metal pesado e por conseguinte,
constituem-se como sinal preocupante para a qualidade de saúde que extraímos do
ambiente e ecossistema onde nos inserimos.
The theme of the Peripheral neuropathy consequent to the action of environmental/external adverse factors, has been very studied and then emphasized in preventive character actions. Lead is a heavy metal found naturally in nature but that is completely alien to the human body, so its exposure, even in minimal amounts, can be highly harmful to humans. The neurological symptoms of intoxication by this metal are often the first to be perceived by individuals themselves and medical assistants, by the physical mental and behavioural changes caused. This work, entitled "Quantitative evaluation of inorganic lead levels in leaves of a species of tree in several streets of Lisbon and its correlation with the toxicity of heavy metal known to man.", it is proposed to determine the lead levels in leaf trees of large size samples from different places of Lisbon, with different rates of pollution, and see if these determinations shown concern for the health of populations. The results obtained in Lisbon city and a curious comparison with two regions of the interior of the country, suggests that levels of lead found reflect a high environmental exposure to this heavy metal and therefore constitute themselves as a sign of concern for the quality of health and the environment that drew ecosystem where we are part.
