Abstract(s)
This dissertation has as its principal theme the enhancement of the conceptual discussion of social innovation in the context of the social problems of tourist gentrification in Lisbon. In the theoretical field it discusses the concept of innovation, of social innovation and the paradigmatic issue in the theoretical and practical construction of social innovation, which culminates in two divergent paradigms - the democratic paradigm and the technocratic paradigm of social innovation. Therefore, we start from the following starting question: to what extent the work developed by organizations, social movements, or collectives related to the social problem of tourist gentrification in Lisbon, may or may not be "social innovation"? Putting as a general research objective: to identify organizations, social movements, or collectives that are developing solutions, alternatives, changes, defense, and guarantee of rights for people and neighborhoods affected by tourist gentrification in Lisbon. To answer and fulfill the proposed objective, we adopted research of exploratory nature, of qualitative methodology, using the semi-structured interview technique to collect information and the content analysis technique to interpret the textual data. In all, three associations and two Lisbon collectives were interviewed. With the analysis of the information collected, we realize that the social innovations achieved by these associations and collectives to solve and combat tourist gentrification are at the micro and macro level in the political, public, and in the defense, representation, and guarantee of rights of people, groups, neighborhoods, and public spaces, placing them in the democratic paradigm of social innovation.
