Abstract(s)
Child maltreatment is a serious problem that affects the lives of countless children and adolescents around all the world. Child maltreatment can take the form of neglect and/or other types of abuse, such as physical, psychological, or sexual, which negatively impacts the development of the victims. However, despite the harmful effects, the diagnosis of child maltreatment cases is highly complex, both because of the diversity of modes of presentation and the limitations faced by health professionals. Thus, to improve the approach to the victim, it is essential to understand this problem, from the factors that influence this type of situation to solutions that improve the recognition and reporting of cases. The main objectives of this dissertation are to understand how the victim of child maltreatment is approached in the current context of health services, what are the main difficulties experienced by health professionals and, therefore, to understand how to optimize the response given to these situations.
