Abstract(s)
plataforma Google Forms. Posteriormente, realizou-se o tratamento estatístico dos
dados recolhidos utilizando o programa IBM SPSS Statistics 26.
O segundo capítulo descreve todas as atividades desenvolvidas durante o meu estágio
no decurso deste período.
O terceiro capítulo deste relatório contempla toda a experiência e competências
The present report has been elaborated within the scope of the curricular unit "Internship" of the Integrated Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences, composed of three distinct chapters: Chapter I which addresses the research component; Chapter II refers to the professional experience in the field of Hospital Pharmacy; and Chapter III covers the professional experience in the field of Community Pharmacy. The first chapter, referring to the research component, addresses the use of cannabis plants for both recreational and medicinal purposes. Cannabinoids are the most consumed psychoactive substances globally, which raises a constant concern, especially among the younger population, such as university students. On the other hand, several studies have demonstrated the numerous therapeutic benefits associated with this plant in different pathologies, which emphasizes the importance of approaching these two aspects. Thus, a cross-sectional observational study was carried out targeting students from the University of Beira Interior, University of Coimbra, and University of Aveiro, in order to analyze the prevalence and recreational use of cannabis, and opinions regarding medical cannabis. This was accomplished through the implementation of an online survey on the Google Forms platform. Subsequently, the statistical treatment of the collected data was performed using the IBM SPSS Statistics 26 program. About 417 students participated in this study, with a predominance of female students (56.8%), from the Health Sciences area (39.4%) and from the age group of 18 to 25 years old (80.7%). The majority of students belonged to the University of Beira Interior (61.9%), while 22.0% belonged to the University of Coimbra and 16.1% to the University of Aveiro. Regarding the recreational use of cannabis, approximately 58.8% of students reported consuming or having consumed cannabis at some point. Of the consumers, 14.3% claim to consume this substance daily, and the majority reported having consumed cannabis for the first time while attending high school (15/16 years old - 18 years old) (53.1%), motivated mainly by curiosity (57.2%). The most prevalent form of consumption among students was dry cannabis flower (81.6%) and the main adverse effects reported by them were dry mouth, increased appetite and anxiety. Cannabis consumption is mainly done in the company of friends (86.3%), in places such as friends' houses (33.2%), own house (33.6%) or on the street (18.6%), for the purpose of relaxation/sensation of well-being (56.7%), and to elevate mood/satisfaction (27.1%). The vast majority of students believe that there are benefits from cannabis-based drugs and substances (83.0%), and 50.8% of respondents agree with the over-the-counter sale of medicinal cannabis in pharmacies, with the advice of a pharmacist. Regarding the knowledge of therapeutic indications where medicinal cannabis is beneficial, the indications most chosen by students were chronic pain, anxiety and insomnia treatment, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and Parkinson's disease. The second chapter describes all the activities carried out during my curricular internship at the Pharmaceutical Services of the Centro Hospitalar Tondela-Viseu, between October 3 and November 25, 2022, under the guidance of Dr. Susana Carvalho. Throughout the chapter, the different areas of activity and functions performed by the pharmacist in the hospital pharmacy are described, which I was able to observe closely during my internship, as well as all the skills acquired during this period. The third chapter of this report presents the experience and competencies acquired during my internship at the Farmácia Molelos, located in the municipality of Tondela, during the period from November 28, 2022, to February 17, 2023, under the guidance of Dr. Carla Soares. This chapter addresses the role of the pharmacist in the community pharmacy, highlighting the inherent responsibilities of this function, and describes the activities developed during my passage in the different areas of the pharmacist's action.
