Abstract(s)
A Serra da Estrela é a montanha que se encontra a maior altitude em Portugal continental, atingindo os 1993 metros, constituindo a segunda mais alta do país. Parte da Serra da Estrela está integrada no Parque Natural da Serra da Estrela, que após a sua constituição em 16 de Julho de 1976, constitui a maior área protegida em solo português.
Sendo uma zona onde o turismo, principalmente no inverno, tem um papel fundamental, este é o cenário perfeito para dias descontraídos em contacto com a natureza. Entre os locais mais conhecidos e visitados da serra podemos encontrar o sítio Penhas Douradas. Situado no concelho de Manteigas, distrito da Guarda, a cerca de 1.500 metros de altitude, destaca-se pelos seus chalés e pela vista abrangente sobre o vale glaciar do Zêzere.
Sousa Martins, médico que se notabilizou no combate à tuberculose, que integrou a 1ª expedição científica à Serra da Estrela em 1881 organizado pela Sociedade de Geografia de Lisboa, considerou as Penhas Douradas o lugar mais saudável do país graças ao seu ar puro e fresco. Consequência desse seu interesse pelo local foi a construção de um aglomerado de chalés com características sanatoriais.
Desta forma, surge então nos finais do século XIX a primeira estância de turismo de montanha em Portugal.
Estando implantadas num local onde as condições climatéricas podem ser bastante adversas durante longos períodos, as suas construções foram sendo adaptadas o melhor possível ao local consoante os conhecimentos e os materiais disponíveis à época. No entanto, foi sempre mantida de uma forma geral a imagem pitoresca do típico chalé suíço.
Atualmente, passados 137 e apesar de algumas já terem sofrido alterações, podemos constatar, comparando o que existe atualmente com algumas imagens do passado, que no geral a imagens dos chalés foi mantida preservando uma historia que se foi perdendo no tempo.
Juntando o fato de todos os chalés terem um historia, de apresentarem uma arquitetura singular e de estarem situados em pleno Parque Natural da Serra da Estrela, leva a que este local preencha todos os requisitos para ser enquadrado no setor do turismo de natureza.
Todavia turismo de natureza não é apenas estar na natureza, este setor do turismo é caracterizado pela implementação a todos os níveis de práticas sustentáveis e o menos nocivas possíveis para o local e por isso para o meio natural.
The Serra da Estrela is the mountain that is the highest in continental Portugal, reaching 1993 m, the second highest in the country. Part of the Serra da Estrela is integrated in the Parque Natural da Serra da Estrela, which, after its constitution on July 16, 1976, established the largest protected area on portuguese soil. Being an area where tourism, especially in winter, plays a key role, this is the perfect setting for relaxed days in contact with nature. Among the most known and visited places of the mountain range we find the Penhas Douradas site. Located in the municipality of Manteigas, Guarda district, at 1,500 meters of altitude, stands out for its chalets and the comprehensive view on the glacier valley of the Zêzere. Sousa Martins, a doctor who became famous in the fight against tuberculosis, who integrated the first scientific expedition to Serra da Estrela in 1881 organized by the Society of Geography of Lisbon, considered Penhas Douradas to be the healthiest place in the country thanks to its fresh and fresh air. As a result of his interest in the site was the construction of a cluster of chalets with sanatorial characteristics. In this way, the first mountain tourism resort in Portugal emerged at the end of the 19th century. Being installed in a place where the weather conditions can be quite adverse for long periods, its constructions were being adapted as much as possible to the place according to the knowledge and the materials available at the time. However, the picturesque image of the typical Swiss chalet has always been maintained. Nowadays, after 137 and although they have already undergone alterations, we can see comparing what currently exists with some images from the past, which in general the images of the chalets were maintained, keeping a history that was lost in time. Joining the fact that all the chalets have a history, of presenting a unique architecture and of being situated in the Parque Natural da Serra da Estrela makes this place fulfill all the requirements to be framed in the nature tourism sector. However, nature tourism is not only being in nature, this tourism sector is characterized by the implementation at all levels of sustainable practices and the least harmful possible to the place and therefore to the natural environment.
