Abstract(s)
The direct is a concept that has been changing over time. In the past, it was seen as the key strategy of conveying last-minute information about a particular topic, complementing the journalistic piece. Today the reality is already different. Often this is limited to serve as a means to create empathy with the public (infotainment) and, consequently, generate the largest number of audiences. Everything revolves around the numbers obtained at the end of each issue, every day, every week, month or year. The purpose of this report is to understand the role that direct plays in the coverage of major events. To this end, the study will focus on a worldwide recognized event: the historic rescue of the football team and its coach who were trapped in a cave in Chiang Rai, northern Thailand. The analysis will be made through the data taken at the TVI - Porto delegation, during the three months of the curricular internship. TVI was the only Portuguese television station to be on site to monitor everything.
