Abstract(s)
continua a girar.
The Act Of A Well Intentioned Thief (Trust in God but not in Men) can be categorized in the genres of drama/ comedy as we follow two characters, one of whom is Daniel, the mayor of Vila Nova do Sabugueiro, a very small town, which is sparsely populated and pratically deserted . When Daniel has a sudden realization that his town is irrevelant and therefore his job as mayor is as well, he decides to take drastic measures. Years laters, Maria, a journalist frustated with her job in a gossip magazine, is in charge of writing a piece about Sangreal, the new name of the once empty town, which is now a giant center of religious tourism. Little by little she starts to realize several bizarre details about the supposed religious miracle that transformed the town and together with her assistant Paulo they start to investigate. And what they discover will change them and the town forever. This story deals with the most diverse themes: guilt, redemption, greed, belief. It’s a story about two people who do not feel fullfilled and come to terms with this fact in very diferent ways. It deals also with how imperfect people are and how they can be able to do everything to calm their deepest fears, even if it means betraying other people or even they’re own values. Another relevant aspect of this story is human being’s fear of being irrelevant. To realize that our actions may not matter, because ultimately the world keeps spinning. To mention that, another important theme present throughout the script is the persistence of doing the right thing, even if the obstacles that come our way try to prevent us from doing so, and even if that happens, we can never loose hope in ourselves and above all, in life. Every chaacter in the script thinks that they’re the heroes of their own stories, that the action they take are not only correct but necessary, which as we can attest after reading the story, such is not the case for everyone. This feauture-film script, is the final project for my master’s degree as an alternative to the short film that could not be made because of the ongoing pandemic of Covid-19. I can say that being my first time writting a script of this magnitude this was a very challenging but ultimately rewarding experience.
