Abstract(s)
In February 2016, the miniseries American crime story premiered on cable television channel FX with the proposal to re-enact a famous crime in American culture each season. The first event portrayed by the television program is the case of O.J. Simpson, a famous football player who was accused of the double homicide of his ex-wife Nicole Brown-Simpson and Ron Goldman. The trial was considered by the media as the most important of the 20th century and the most mediatized in American history because of the intense journalistic coverage surrounding the event and the overexposure of the private lives of those involved in the tragedy. Taking into account the information from the real case, the present research seeks to analyze how the miniseries represented the effect of mediatization in O.J. Simpson's judgment, since the media, as an institution, had a great presence and influence in the case. So that the investigation can be developed, a bibliographic and documentary research will be carried out on the event that served as the basis for the program's plot, the program itself, a contextualization about narratives and relationships between texts on television and record studies on the theory of mediatization. After this stage is completed, the next one is to apply the methodology of film analysis by Aumont & Marie (2004) so that the decomposition and interpretation of American crime story is carried out and the thesis can complete its objective.
