Abstract(s)
Daniel Libeskind e Steven Holl. As perspetivas dos diferentes arquitetos influenciaram
a conceção do projeto experimental.
Escala, o Ritmo, e a Emoção.
Architecture and Music, often perceived as divergent arts, converge in diverse dimensions, sharing a dynamic creative process grounded in experimentation and refinement. This research delves into unraveling how music acts as a catalyst in architectural composition, delving into case studies and common conceptual frameworks. The alignment of analogous principles within these distinct artistic realms will be scrutinized through extensive resources, encompassing articles, books, dissertations, interviews, and hands-on experiences. The dissertation unfolds a narrative, tracing influences that culminate in the development of an abstract architectural project—a fusion of architecture and music. Following the introduction, the analysis navigates through case studies—be it projects or theories—raising pertinent questions and fortifying the synergy between both art forms. Architects such as Iannis Xenakis, Bernard Tschimi, Daniel Libeskind, and Steven Holl are scrutinized, their perspectives intricately shaping the conception of the experimental project. Subsequently, the second chapter elucidates shared concepts in architecture and music drawn from the analyzed case studies—Proportion, Scale, Rhythm, and Emotion. The scrutiny underscores the subtleties of their application, emphasizing both similarities and distinctions when transposed into different artistic expressions. These foundational principles find validation through a comprehensive exploration of articles, books, experiences, and interviews, with notable insights from architect Luísa Bebiano. The exploration concludes with an in-depth investigation into the "Melody Gallery" and its exhibition project—an abstract architectural endeavor inspired by Michael Kobrin's "The Introvert" music, subsequently submitted to the Aural Architecture Design 2023 competition. Ultimately, this research endeavors to unveil the reciprocal influence between architectural design and music, deciphering conceptual intersections while acknowledging points of convergence and divergence.
