Abstract(s)
Flight data monitoring involves the download of flight data from a quick access recorder unit localized in the cockpit. This is used for further analysis. Human error is considered a contributing factor in accidents and serious (or not) incidents. It is possible that systems requiring human interaction may have errors. This is due to human factors that compromise their performance. One facet of human error is human limitations. To help combat this there are a set of basic defenses and strategies in the safety management system that can reduce its implications. Flight data are extracted with the purpose of analyzing deviation procedures in a proactive way. This is done in order to identify hazards. Once hazards are identified, corrective actions must be applied in order to eliminate the root cause of the occurrence. This practice must be performed in a constructive way as part of a non-punitive safety culture. This also assures the confidentiality of crew members. Flight Data Monitoring is one of the major safety management system tools. It has many benefits related with unscheduled maintenance work orders and in the optimization of fuel consumption.
