As estâncias termais em Portugal são fruto da riqueza em águas minerais termais que ocorrem espalhadas pelo território.
No entanto, algumas das estâncias termais portuguesas, resumem-se a um conjunto edificado obsoleto, com instalações envelhecidas e descontextualizadas para os parâmetros atuais. Todavia, o volume de procura por tratamentos de cura termal, de lazer e bem-estar, está a conduzir a um fenómeno de renovação e revitalização dos espaços termais introduzindo uma linguagem arquitetónica contemporânea sem desvirtuar os cânones arquitetónicos do passado.
Com a chegada de novos públicos às termas, para além da oferta clássica das estâncias termais, houve a necessidade de adaptar as infraestruturas dos espaços termais com capacidade de resposta a um novo conceito de caráter lúdico.
O objetivo da presente dissertação considera a reabilitação do Centro Termal do Eirôgo em avançado estado de degradação, na freguesia de Galegos Santa Maria, no concelho de Barcelos. Este conjunto termal é reconhecido com um bem imóvel a salvaguardar e o princípio estabelecido define-se em dotar este estabelecimento termal com valências termais e turísticas, com níveis de qualidade e conforto, que estimulem a prática de turismo termal de bem-estar e lazer na região.
A dissertação procura entender os princípios do termalismo, a sua difusão e propagação a nível mundial, a história do termalismo em Portugal, em que condições surgiu, em que épocas se afirmou em território nacional e relacionar com o enquadramento espacial, temporal e histórico do Centro Termal do Eirôgo.
É objetivo essencial na dissertação elaborar uma proposta de reabilitação e requalificação dos volumes arquitetónicos e espaço envolvente do centro termal, enquadrada numa solução arquitetónica que respeite as singularidades que caracterizam o conjunto arquitetónico. A proposta pretende a adaptação de um conteúdo programático atual, com novas funcionalidades, sem perder a identidade que carateriza as preexistências.
The thermal spas in Portugal are fruit of the richness in mineral thermal waters that occurs scattered by the territory. However, some of the Portuguese thermal spas are an obsolete building, with old and decontextualized facilities for the current parameters. Although, the volume of demand for thermal healing, leisure and wellness treatments is leading to a phenomenon of renewal and revitalization of thermal springs introducing a contemporary architectural language without detracting from the architectural canons of the past. With the arrival of new publics to the thermal baths, in addition to the classic offer of the thermal spas, there was a need to adapt the infrastructures of the thermal spaces with the capacity to respond to a new concept of a playful character. The objective of the present dissertation considers the rehabilitation of the Eirôgo Thermal Center in an advanced state of degradation, in the parish of Galegos Santa Maria, in the municipality of Barcelos. This thermal complex is recognized with an immovable property to safeguard and the established principle is defined in endowing this thermal establishment with thermal and tourist values, with levels of quality and comfort, that stimulate the practice of thermal tourism of well-being and leisure in the region. The dissertation seeks to understand the principles of spa therapy, its diffusion and propagation worldwide, the history of spa therapy in Portugal, under what conditions it emerged, in which times it was affirmed in national territory and related to the spatial, temporal and historical framework of the Center Thermal of Eirôgo. It is an essential objective in the dissertation to elaborate a proposal of rehabilitation and requalification of the architectonic volumes and surrounding space of the thermal center, framed in an architectural solution that respects the singularities that characterize the architectonic set. The proposal intends to adapt a current programmatic content, with new functionalities, without losing the identity that characterizes the preexistences.
