Esta dissertação consiste numa intervenção na Zona Ribeirinha de Barcelos, junto ao
Rio Cávado. Surge em resposta ao programa proposto pela Câmara Municipal de Barcelos, com
o intuito de promover a reabilitação da área ribeirinha em actual estado de degradação e
praticamente inutilizada.
O programa propõe uma intervenção ao nível da regeneração de toda a área, incidindo
nos espaços verdes já existentes, propondo zonas de prática desportiva, lazer e de eventos
culturais de forma a dinamizar o local, integrando-o na malha urbana. A intervenção inclui
também um projecto de reabilitação do edifício do departamento de obras da Câmara
Municipal, adjacente à zona ribeirinha. Assim como toda a zona a intervir, este apresenta
também sinais de degradação. Neste contexto, o programa propõe a sua reabilitação e
reconversão numa pousada.
Neste sentido, a presente dissertação inicia-se por uma recolha e análise do
desenvolvimento das zonas ribeirinhas, com o intuito de delinear estratégias a considerar no
caso de estudo. Paralelamente, é feito um levantamento sobre a origem e panorama actual
das Pousadas de Portugal, incidindo o estudo sobre os casos que resultam de reabilitação,
evidenciando as vantagens e mais-valias deste tipo de intervenções.
Numa análise geral, estes espaços, são caracterizados por extensas áreas de zonas
verdes e por edifícios de valor histórico, que carecem, na maioria dos casos, de manutenção
ou mesmo de intervenções profundas para poderem ser usufruídos adequadamente. Estas
zonas ribeirinhas são, actualmente, espaços muitas vezes esquecidos, prejudicados pela
crescente degradação paisagística, quando podiam assumir-se como espaços de valor social,
ambiental e com potencialidades económicas, constituindo por isso uma mais-valia para a
cidade.
Por fim, é apresentada uma proposta de projecto de requalificação da zona ribeirinha
em estudo de forma a responder a todas as exigências do programa, tanto ao nível dos
espaços verdes como do edificado. O projecto pretende, não só dinamizar a zona ribeirinha
de Barcelos, como estimular o turismo da cidade.
This work consists of an intervention in the Riverside area of Barcelos, by the Cávado River. It comes in response to the program proposed by the Municipality of Barcelos in order to promote the rehabilitation of the riverside area which is in a current state of disrepair and largely unused. The program proposes an intervention to regenerate of the whole area, focusing on the existing green spaces, proposing sport and leisure areas and cultural events in order to streamline the site as well as integrating it into the urban fabric. The intervention also intends to provide a project to rehabilitate existing buildings, specifically the building currently used as the department of the Municipal Works, adjacent to the waterfront. As the whole area to intervene, this building also presents signs of degradation. In this context the program proposes the rehabilitation and conversion into an inn. In this sense, this thesis begins with the recollection and analysis of the development of riverside zones in order to devise strategies to consider in the case study. In parallel, a survey of the origin and current landscape of the Portuguese inn’s, focusing the study on instances resulting of rehabilitation, highlighting the advantages and gains of such interventions. In overview, these spaces are characterized by extensive green areas and buildings of historical value, which require, in most cases, maintaining, or even major intervention in order to be adequately used. These riverside zones are currently spaces often forgotten, hurt by rising landscape degradation, they could take value as spaces for social , environmental and economic potential and therefore an asset to the city . Finally, it’s presented a project proposal for the redevelopment of the waterfront question trying to meet all requirements of the program, both in terms of green spaces and the buildings. The project which hopes not only boost the riverside area of Barcelos but to also stimulate tourism in the city.
