Abstract(s)
This dissertation deals with the legal-political models of the framework of sex work in Portugal, seeking to understand the perception that the portuguese population has about them. This is a social phenomenon that exists in all societies, but is still seen as taboo and the target of several polemics, including the concepts of prostitution and sex work. Over the years, there have been some changes in the social representation of the phenomenon and its interpretation, and recently the theme has had greater social visibility in Portugal due to the proposal to regulate made by the Socialist Youth in 2016. All these issues are addressed by analysing the level of knowledge of the Portuguese society and its opinion on the most appropriate legal-political model for Portugal, based on a mixed methodology that we used two techniques, the online questionnaire survey aimed at the general population and an analysis of the content of opinion articles. The results obtained allow us to state that there is a high degree of lack of knowledge in our sample on the subject, but its position tends to be in favour of regulation, mainly due to health and safety factors. Although some of the arguments analysed in the surveys differed from the arguments identified in the opinion articles analysed, a similarity was found regarding the arguments in favour of the regulation of sex work in Portugal.
