Abstract(s)
O primeiro capítulo é referente à investigação laboratorial conduzida no CICS-UBI,
No
promissores.
O segundo capítulo descreve a experiência profissionalizante em Farmácia Hospitalar,
concretamente no Hospital São Teotónio do Centro Hospitalar Tondela-Viseu (CHTV).
This report was written as part of the "Internship" course unit during the final academic year of the Integrated Master's in Pharmaceutical Sciences (MICF) at the University of Beira Interior (UBI). It is composed of three distinct chapters, which address the research conducted at the Health Sciences Research Center of the University of Beira Interior (CICS-UBI), professional experience in Community Pharmacy, and professional experience in Hospital Pharmacy. The first chapter focuses on laboratory research conducted at CICS-UBI under the title "Evaluation of the antifungal activity of lemongrass essential oils combined with clotrimazole in combating vaginal candidiasis." Several assays were carried out to determine the Fractional Inhibitory Concentration Index (FIC) of the essential oils of Cymbopogon citratus, Cymbopogon winterianus and Cymbopogon flexuosus in combination with clotrimazole, using the serial dilution method, in the inhibition of Candida albicans growth. The combination of clotrimazole with the essential oil (EO) of Cymbopogon flexuosus yielded results close to synergy. Subsequently, the impact on biofilm formation of the same species was evaluated, comparing the behavior of the agents in combination and individually. At concentrations of 0.0624 µg/mL of clotrimazole and 0.0313% (V/V) of EO, the combination proved to be more effective in combating biofilm formation, representing an effective strategy to overcome antifungal resistance. However, at tenfold higher concentrations of the active ingredients, the results were less promising. The second chapter describes the professional experience gained during an internship in Hospital Pharmacy at São Teotónio Hospital of the Tondela-Viseu Hospital Center (CHTV). The internship took place from March 4, 2024, to April 26, 2024. This chapter outlines the activities undertaken during the two-month internship, where I had the opportunity to work in all sectors of the CHTV’s Pharmaceutical Services, from medication reception and storage to dispensing. This hospital experience was fundamental in my development as a pharmacist, complementing the knowledge acquired throughout the course with a focus on the hospital setting. The third chapter details the professional experience gained during the internship in Community Pharmacy at Grão Vasco Pharmacy in Viseu. This internship took place from April 29, 2024, to July 19, 2024. This chapter describes my journey in Community Pharmacy, including real-life situations of dispensing medication to the public. I had the opportunity to work in all sectors of Community Pharmacy, concluding my academic path with a holistic understanding of what it means to be a pharmacist.
